This guide covers how to remap keys on your cloud workstation using Microsoft PowerToys, and how to enable a numeric keypad when using a Mac keyboard on Windows. This is useful when your Mac keyboard sends Command where Windows expects Ctrl, or when you need a num pad for Avid Media Composer shortcuts.
Remapping a key with PowerToys
- Open the Start menu and double-click the PowerToys app.
- In the PowerToys application, go to Input / Output > Keyboard Manager. Make sure Enable Keyboard Manager is set to On.
- Click Remap a key to open the remapping window.
- Click Add key remapping.
- A new row appears. Click Select on the left-hand side (the source key), then press the key you want to remap.
- In the key-capture dialog, press the key on your keyboard, then click OK.
- The source key now shows what you pressed (for example, Win Left).
- Click Select on the right-hand side (the destination key), press the key you want it to send, and click OK.
- You should now see the completed remapping (for example, Win Left mapped to Ctrl Left). Click OK at the top right to save.
The remapping takes effect immediately. Repeat these steps for any other keys you need to remap.
Enabling a numeric keypad from a Mac keyboard
Mac keyboards do not have a dedicated num pad, but you can use the Windows on-screen keyboard to toggle NumLock and then use the number row as a num pad.
- Search for on-screen keyboard in the Start menu and open it.
- The on-screen keyboard opens. Click the Options key.
- In the Options window, check Turn on numeric key pad and click OK.
- The on-screen keyboard now shows a NumLock key on the right side. Click NumLock to enable the numeric keypad input from your Mac keyboard.
You can now use the number row on your Mac keyboard as a num pad in applications that require it (such as Avid Media Composer keyboard shortcuts).

When contacting us, help us resolve your issue quickly by always including:
- Your full name and account email (
@originalsaccess.com). - A clear description of the problem and the exact error message you see (a screenshot helps).
- Your show code and show name
- The show/workspace, workstation, or application involved.
- When the problem started and what you've already tried.
Please open a new request for each separate issue rather than replying to an older, resolved one, so it reaches the right team.
